About the Captain

As owner and operator of Chad's Coastwide Sports Fishing, Chad Calder carries on a family legacy. A lifelong resident of Port Hardy, he is also the son of one of the first fishing guides in Port Hardy. His father, Larry Calder, was among the first to take clients to some of the best fishing on the west coast.

Chad still has his father's original log book and a wealth of experience from lifelong immersion in west coast fishing. As a young boy, he saw his father bring home huge halibut and salmon.

He began fishing himself at 14 and conducted his first charter fishing trip at 16. He has more than 25 years' experience fishing for salmon and halibut in the Port Hardy area.
